How to Update Windows (Windows 10 & 11)

Purpose

To ensure the computer is running the latest Windows updates for security, performance, and compatibility with clinic applications and devices.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Open Windows Settings

1. Click the Start menu (Windows icon) on the lower-left corner.

2. Select Settings (⚙️ gear icon).

   

Step 2: Go to Windows Update

• Windows 10:

  • Click Update & Security

  • Select Windows Update

• Windows 11:

  • Click Windows Update (left panel or bottom of the menu)

  

Step 3: Check for Updates

1. Click Check for updates.

2. Windows will automatically search for available updates.

Step 4: Download and Install Updates

• If updates are found, they will begin downloading automatically.

• Click Download or Install if prompted.

• Wait for the process to complete (this may take several minutes).

Step 5: Restart the Computer

1. If prompted, click Restart now.

2. If not prompted, manually restart the computer to complete the update.

⚠️ Important: Do not shut down the computer while updates are installing.

Optional: Advanced Options (If Needed)

1. In Windows Update, click Advanced options.

2. Ensure the following are enabled (recommended):

   • ✅ Receive updates for other Microsoft products

   • ✅ Download updates over metered connections (if applicable)
