Set Up Microsoft Authenticator
Overview
The Microsoft Authenticator app is essential after enabling Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) because it adds a second layer of security to your account, protecting it even if your password is compromised. Instead of relying on less secure methods like SMS codes, the app provides fast and reliable sign-ins through push notifications or time-based codes. It ensures that only you can access your account by requiring something you know (your password) and something you have (your phone). Plus, it supports backup and easy recovery if you switch devices, making it both secure and convenient.
Step 1: Install Microsoft Authenticator
- Open the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android).
- Search for "Microsoft Authenticator".
- Tap Install or Get.
- Open the app once installed.
Step 2: From Your Computer - Link the App
- On your computer, go to: Outlook.office.com
- Enter your email and password
- Follow the instruction on the screen
- Use your Authenticator app to scan the QR code.
- The account will be added automatically to the app.
- Tap Next on your computer and enter the number on the app shown on the screen
- Approve the sign-in request on your phone to finish.
